E-Reader Specs

Things I want in an E-reader, because a conversation prompted me to think about it.

MUST Have

• USB-C PD conformant charging
• Waterproof
• Nice to handle, maybe an aluminum back cover
• I don't know how much pixel density matters, but it should feel like a Retina screen on Apple devices.
• Displays PDF, EPUB, TXT, HTML
• Able to watch network file location for files
• No creepy company behind it
• No Google services

SHOULD Have

• Reasonably high refresh rate
• RSS reading
  • I can live without this if it can watch network locations and display TXT/ HTML files
  • Ideally with FreshRSS API compatibility
• Display webpages
• Linux-based, software allows for tinkering
• Open source, be reasonably repairable
• People say physical page turn buttons are nice, so I guess that would be neat
