E-Reader Specs
Things I want in an E-reader, because a conversation prompted me to think about it.
Because funny:
The key words "MUST", "MUST NOT", "REQUIRED", "SHALL", "SHALL NOT", "SHOULD", "SHOULD NOT", "RECOMMENDED", "MAY", and "OPTIONAL" in this document are to be interpreted as described in RFC 2119.
MUST Have
- USB-C PD conformant charging
- Waterproof
- Nice to handle, maybe an aluminum back cover
- I don't know how much pixel density matters, but it should feel like a Retina screen on Apple devices.
- Displays PDF, EPUB, TXT, HTML
- Able to watch network file location for files
- No creepy company behind it
- No Google services
SHOULD Have
- Reasonably high refresh rate
- RSS reading
- I can live without this if it can watch network locations and display TXT/ HTML files
- Ideally with FreshRSS API compatibility
- Display webpages
- Linux-based, software allows for tinkering
- Open source, be reasonably repairable
- People say physical page turn buttons are nice, so I guess that would be neat
